What does disturb me is that people have taken the original videos and edited them without giving proper ownership rights to the creators and may be making money from them. I doubt they did this with the owner’s consent or they would say as much. The videos were made for a purpose. When that didn’t happen the Kohls, father and so, made the videos available for free.

The cases of my 13-yr-old aunt and I happened in the early '60s.
This deceit has been going on for many many years. Some ex-JWs have told me their abuse occurred even earlier.
Historically, most people did not want to deal with this issue. It was never reported. "Uncle Bill" was funny, or liked to diddle little kids. It just happened and no one did much to stop it.
Very rarely was the accused shut out of the family. Mostly it was hidden allowing the accused to continue to abuse the child or move on to find other victims. One estimate is that a true pedophile has up to 70 victims before he is stopped.
I say a true pedophile because the definition of pedophile is that the person main attraction is to children. But not all people who sexually abuse children are pedophiles. Some just take advantage of a situation and children are easy targets. My father and stepfather do not fit the definition of pedophile even though both had many victims. My father was an situational sexual offender. If no adult was available he turned to children. My stepfather, on the other hand, thought all females were his for the taking regardless of age. Both regularly had sex with women. That was most likely their preference. But under-age girls would do just as well if they were available.
Unfortunately, we don't make that distinction among the exJW community. Some may be pedophiles but I suspect most are situational offenders or molesters.
Either way, the WTS, like the pubic ignored the problems (thank you Dr. Freud who lied to protect his reputation).

When you have to turn off your brain and your emotions to exist within a high control group people WILL develop mental health issues. The longer you are in the group, the more serious the problems might become.

quite a number of ex jw's ive met over the years have health issues--mostly imagined. Mostly women
This often results in psychosomatic health problems which are very real. Not imagined. Constant stress and depression wears the body down.

I wonder how many JWs wander around thinking just about everyone else in the congregation is happy, so there is something wrong with me and not my religion.
Nobody knew how depressed or suicidal I was. I just plastered a smile on my face and did all the things expected of an elders wife. I suspect most people are the same. In my over 20 years talking to ex-JWs they almost all say the say thing.

Do you agree with his conclusion that most Jehovah's Witnesses are unhappy and chronically depressed?
I do. Most would deny it even to themselves. Many suffer psychosomatic health problems that are misdiagnosed or really are the symptoms of long-term undiagnosed depression turned inward.
Remember: They are not allowed to be depressed. They are God's "happy" people.
The year after year after year of sacrificing your individuality, identity, interests, education, etc is enough to make anyone depressed.
Never being good enough to make it through keeps everyone on a perpetual treadmill, constantly trying to be good enough. The repeated "soon" for the end to come, which never comes. This creates a constant anxiety about making it through when the end finally does come... if it comes in your lifetime.
And they turn to a wide range of behaviors to mask those feelings, which they aren't supposed to have because they are "happy".
People who leave often need counseling. Not just because of the impact of leaving, but also because of the terribly negative impact of living such a repressed life for years.

Thanks.
I'm currently taking part in a study aiming to detect colon cancer early in people under 55. Cancers deep inside the body can be hard to detect and symptoms can be very vague and easily batted off by your GP. That's if you get them at all, as in your case Lady Lee. So I think they're hoping to establish a regular testing regime whether you're symptomatic or not.
